Ismaila Bantar
— Founder
Ismaila Bantar is a young Cameroonian entrepreneur from Douala. He grew up watching the people around him work hard every single day — market women waking up before sunrise, taxi drivers spending hours on hot dusty roads, young graduates sending out hundreds of job applications with no reply, small business owners counting every franc just to stay afloat.
He saw something else too. Despite the struggle, he saw community. He saw neighbors forming Njangi groups, colleagues pooling their money together, families saving for weddings, school fees, and emergencies. He saw the beauty of people trusting each other with their hard-earned cash.
But he also saw the cracks. Arguments breaking out because no one knew who had paid and who had not. Group presidents holding cash for weeks — tempted, stressed, sometimes broken. Friendships ending over missing contributions. Years of savings disappearing overnight because someone trusted the wrong person.
And worst of all, he saw people who wanted to save but had nowhere to go. Millions of Cameroonians locked out of the formal banking system — not because they were irresponsible, but because the system was never built for them. No pay slip. No proof of residence. No minimum deposit. No account.
"What if there was a way to keep the spirit of Njangi — the community, the discipline, the shared hope — but remove the fear, the secrecy, and the risk?"
The moment that forced that question came when Ismaila watched a woman in his community lose everything. She had saved faithfully in a tontine for years — dreaming of sending her child to school, fixing her small shop, finally breathing. Then the group president disappeared with all the money. She cried for weeks. Not because she was lazy. But because she trusted the only system available to her — and it failed her.
He had no money. No tech background. No powerful connections. But he had an idea and a determination that would not quit.
He found a developer who believed in the vision. He signed partnership agreements. He used his own small savings to register his company — MBAMBA SARL — with the Cameroonian government. He opened a business bank account, filed every tax document, applied for certifications. He tested the app, found bugs, fixed them, and tested again.
Slowly, painfully, beautifully, MBAMBA Save began to take shape. Today, real users have created personal pots, formed groups, deposited money, and withdrawn funds. And Ismaila is still a young Cameroonian entrepreneur — but now, he is also a founder.
MBAMBA Save is for everyone who works hard, dreams big, and believes that saving together is better than saving alone.
